At Preuss Podiatry, we offer custom orthotics. We make custom orthotics for patients at our three Louisville, KY offices and our Floyds Knobs, IN office, to relieve heel pain, arch pain, knee and back strain, and many other foot problems.
Why custom orthotics?
Custom orthotics are beneficial as they help to give proper support to the foot that is customized to fit your foot specifically. Unlike over-the-counter inserts that only last 3–4 months, custom orthotics have the potential to last years, making them a great long term investment. Also with custom orthotics, a multitude of modifications can be made to optimize the fit to your foot structure.
Conditions custom orthotics can help
- Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
- Flat feet and high arches
- Bunions and hammertoes
- Big toe arthritis (hallux rigidus) and other foot arthritis
- Morton’s neuroma and ball of foot pain
- Achilles tendonitis and other sports injuries
- Diabetic feet, to reduce pressure points
How they are made
A mold of your feet would be obtained in-office and the custom orthotic would be made from your personal mold. When your custom orthotics arrive, the podiatrists will help to shape and fit the custom orthotic in your shoes.
Custom orthotics vs. store-bought inserts
Store-bought inserts are made to fit an average foot. Custom orthotics are made from a mold of your own feet and designed by your podiatrist to correct how your foot moves, not just cushion it. That is why they can relieve pain that off-the-shelf inserts do not.
Caring for your orthotics
- Break them in slowly, wearing them a few hours more each day.
- Wear them in shoes with enough room and a removable insole.
- Bring them to your visits so we can check the fit and wear.
